Dialyzed Woman Bled to Death, Family Says

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (CN) - A woman bled to death because a DaVita clinic left her alone during dialysis, her family claims in Solano County Court. The family says the licenses of the nurses who abandoned her had been "previously revoked in multiple states for abuse of controlled substances."
Jesse Christiansen's husband and seven children say she bled to death because she was left unattended while receiving dialysis at DaVita's clinic in Benicia. She was 67.
The children say the clinic staff knew their mother needed careful monitoring but recklessly left her alone and did not notice when blood collected around the shunt.
By the time the staff returned, "she had no blood pressure and was having only agonal (dying gasping) respirations," the complaint states. (Parentheses in complaint.)
The family seeks damages for wrongful death, negligence and elder abuse. They are represented by Rebecca and Matthew Freeman of Santa Rosa.
